Write It Down

A parody filked (filkched?) to Vixy and Tony's "Burn It Down".

Funny story: I originally improvised the chorus of this as an offhand joke, and it sat on my hard drive for months before the rest was written. Benefits of taking the song's advice, I guess?

The legends of a writer are of toil and frustration
If you're willing to be stubborn and you work out what to do
Let someone inspire you to dare your own creation
Throw ideas upon the pile and let them rise as something new!
So you think you couldn't write it, well I'll tell you it's not true!

Write it down, write it down, write it down
Put your pencil to the page and write it down
Don't let your thoughts slip away, put them on the page to stay
Don't forget from yesterday, write it down!

It's something from a dream, and soon you cannot quite remember
Words all dark and misty-seeming now like patterns in the sand
What's that bright idea you had just right before November?
With a pen and paper all your thoughts can linger near to hand
Catch that light of inspiration, keep it here at your command!

Write it down, write it down, write it down
Put your pencil to the page and write it down
As you open eyes and wake, don't let your wildest dreams escape
Just think of all the things you'll make! Write it down!

Voices whisper "never" fear that what comes out is trash
And they will hold you back forever, to protect you from the shame
Cast aside the editor that stifles all your passion
Bring your head and heart together, hands and keyboard do the same
When the time comes for revising, it's your best that will remain

Write it down, write it down, write it down
Put your pencil to the page and write it down
Don't let your thoughts slip away, put them on the page to stay
Don't forget from yesterday, write it down!
