The World Ends In Spring
In April when we dug our grave
And left our letters for the brave
Time capsules for the daring,
For those rare and desperate few
Three days' delay and still
By the future's force of will
This world's fate is sealing steady
And already is our tomb
For the world ends in spring
Showers of brimstone comets, too thick for the heavens to burn
What a terribly funny thing, and
When the ash settles oh you can bet we'll never learn
Moon's cousin hangs over in shadow
Like Damocles' sword and don't you know
The world ends in spring
In unseasonable sun and endless rain
No rainbow ever shines again
The empty streets all waiting
For desolation's note to play
The fires are growing thick
Far too sudden, far too quick
But the final impact's tidal waves
Will still outpace them all
For the world ends in spring
Showers of brimstone comets too thick for the heavens to burn
What a terribly funny thing, and
When the ash settles oh you can bet we'll never learn, no
Moon's cousin hangs over in shadow
Our pendulum swings and don't you know
The world ends in spring
