Do-Over
A song for In Stars and Time, or at least, the earlier acts. I have not played it yet, but I have been thoroughly spoiled, and it looks very fun (and full of suffering.)
In other news, we are not escaping the indie game timeloop suffering vortex.
Oh please, don't peek backstage before the starting scene is set
The rehearsal's only worsening with every detail that I forget
All my lines are misaligned, maligned, and slipping under the stress
They say stars get the hardest parts, and I'm not quite there yet
But give me a thousand do-overs and I'll try my best to succeed
I promise that I can be more than a joke
So I'll choke on those words and I'll bleed (for you!)
Until I can learn all the words and the cues
And I know what to say and I know what to do
Until something gives way and I finally push through...
[A deep breath in. A deep breath out.]
The opening scene, this time with feeling, maybe this reading is the one
Go through the motions, trying to focus, show the whole world you're having fun
Through a layer of paper too fine to be seen, still reaching to be touched...
Waiting for stars to align overnight, but it's never quite enough
But give me a thousand do-overs and let's see if I succeed
Maybe I'm better off left as a joke
But I'll choke on the words and I'll bleed for you
Until I can learn all the words and the cues
And I know what to say and I know what to do
Until something gives way and I finally push through...
[A deep breath. In, out. Again.]
Die, reprise and open your eyes, 'cause the show must go on
The audience wants an encore and this is the only play we've got
Even the poorest of performances can be taken from the top
Crying your eyes out under the spotlight, don't you just wish it all could stop?
But give me a thousand do-overs and let's see if I succeed
Maybe I'm better off left as a joke
But I'll choke on the words and I'll bleed for you
Until I can learn all my words and my cues
And I know what to say and I know what to do
Until something gives way and I finally get through...
(Cut, scene, repeat--)
Oh, give me a thousand do-overs and let's see if I don't succeed
The universe knows I'm a joke
But I'll choke on my words, and I'll burn, and I'll bleed (for who?!)
Until I can learn all the words and the cues
And I know what to say and I know what to do
Until something gives way and I finally push through...
(Again! With feeling, this time!)
-- Until I can learn all the words and the cues
And I know what to say and I know what to do
Until something gives way and I finally push through...
And I'm somebody better than me.
